A fast web app with animated UI, OpenAI (e.g. GPT-3.5) powering the cats, cloud database for chats and characters, and optional install on your phone without an app store.
Problem → delivery
The initial chat UI had weak interaction density and poor message threading. Users wanted long roleplay conversations, not the shallow back-and-forth most chat demos allow.
A Next.js web app with AI cat personas and a dedicated chat redesign track that improved thread structure, message rendering, and overall interaction quality. Deployed publicly, installable without an app store.
Chat redesign runs on a separate branch so UX changes can be reviewed and merged independently. AI replies go through server-side routes to keep API keys off the client and costs observable.
Built for real-world use
Chat UX is deceptively hard to get right. The redesign track treated message layout and interaction patterns as a first-class problem, not an afterthought. Long threads and cost-predictable AI calls required intentional architecture.
